Qimonda AG is joining forces with Advantest to develop a hardware set-up for Graphics Double Data Rate 5 (GDDR5) testing. The partnership aims to deliver a cost-efficient high volume test solution for GDDR5 graphics DRAM devices.

GDDR5 is touted to become the next major graphics DRAM standard after GDDR3. With its performance and features, GDDR5 is expected to suit future high-performance graphics applications like those in PC graphics cards or game consoles. The entry of new I/O standards requires efficient manufacturability and memory test is a major part of the manufacturing process, said the companies.

"Efficient testability is a key prerequisite for Qimonda to successfully enable new DRAM products in the market," said Robert Feurle, VP of business unit graphics at Qimonda. He expressed that he is positive about the project, adding that "Advantest and Qimonda have a long and stable relationship on DRAM testing."
