PFC evaluation board eases module testing

TT electronics BI Technologies' Electronic Components Division is offering power supply engineers a PFC evaluation board with which to test their circuit designs. The ready-to-run board contains most of the necessary control and power circuitry, along with the required inductor assembled onto a compact board, to test PFC modules.

"We developed the evaluation board to make the design process easier for customers," said Mike Ochoa-Hougan, product manager for TT Electronics. "The board allows designers to test their circuits to ensure that the module will operate at a specified tolerance. If there is a deviation, the evaluation board will detect it."

The PFC evaluation board features correction to near unity power factor and better than 95 per cent efficiency, allowing it to accurately evaluate a variety of applications including 500W-3000W switching power supplies, motor drives, servo amplifiers, solenoid drivers, solid-state relays and three-phase rectifier bridges.

The evaluation board accepts 85-265Vrms input voltage at 50-60Hz, and is capable of handling up to 3kW of power with a cooled heat sink.

BI Technologies also offers a series of PFC modules in three standard configurations. Designated the 7720 Series, the modules suit power supplies ranging from 500W to 3000W, and are capable of replacing up to 10 TO220 or TO247 discrete power semiconductors required to achieve power factor correction in a conventional power supply design.

PFC evaluation board is priced at Rs.8,779.88 ($199). Lead time is from stock to 12 weeks.
