Panasonic Corp. of North America will put up a Panasonic Hollywood Blu-ray Testing Centre (PHBTC) within the existing facilities of Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory. Testing services of the lab start this month.

According to Panasonic, the establishment of the centre meets the industry's need for a testing service regarding content verification of Blu-ray video discs before it undergoes disc replication. It mainly benefits the motion picture industry, especially in Hollywood, said the company.

Specific testing services that the centre will provide include format verification service for the logical format of Blu-ray disc video/live discs, playback testing service for Blu-ray disc video/live discs with the Blu-ray disc video playback system as well as rental site service for format verification and playback testing.

Panasonic is also inviting the members of the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA) to install their BD-Video playback products, including Blu-ray recorders and players in PHBTC so that content providers and authoring studios can confirm the interoperability of their titles using the playback products.

Established in 2001, Panasonic Hollywood Laboratory is an authoring, replication and encoding facility within the industry. It also conducts R&D of Blu-ray components.
