Motorola acquires Symbol for Rs.17,674.80 crore

To further advance its enterprise mobility business, Motorola Inc. has acquired Symbol Technologies Inc. The acquisition, which costs approximately Rs.17,674.80 crore ($3.9 billion), integrates Symbol under Motorola Networks and Enterprise division. Sal Iannuzzi, former president and CEO of Symbol, will serve as president of the new Motorola enterprise mobility business.

Greg Brown, president of Motorola Networks & Enterprise said, "By combining our complementary technology portfolios, deep industry- specific domain knowledge, sales channels and customer bases, the new Motorola enterprise mobility business establishes itself as a global leader in providing real-time technology solutions for customers, both inside and outside the four walls of their enterprise."

The additional expertise from Symbol is expected to enable Motorola to provide solutions that allow all-time access to business-critical information. Product offerings will include mobile office devices, rugged mobile, wearable computers, WLAN infrastructures, field network solutions, bar code scanning, RFID solutions and network design and management software, including security applications.

Motorola also plans to integrate and use capabilities gained through its acquisition of Good Technology for the enterprise mobility business to be located at the former Symbol headquarters in New York.
