Sentex Sensing Technologies disclosed Jan. 8 its interest to buy handset manufacturer BenQ Mobile. Sentex president Henrik Rubinstein stated his interest to purchase the BenQ. The Sentex stated that its interest is based on the "strong technology" of the former Siemens mobile handset branch and that it would also be instrumental for Sentex to enter European markets. In the past, both companies have jointly conducted developments for the Sentex Biometric product lines.

Sentex intends to employ about 1,700 persons in several business units including manufacturing, about 700 more than BenQ Mobile still employs, but much less than the 3,000 it employed before its insolvency.

Presently, the company is in discussions with several financial institutions for the strategic financing of the planned deal and also already created a business model together with BenQ. In addition, the state governments of North-Rhine Westphalia and Bavaria are negotiating with the suitors.

The second suitor whom insolvency administrator Martin Prager is negotiating with for a takeover still does not wish to disclose its identity.
