Atrenta has recently announced that supercomputer provider Cray has adopted its SpyGlass platform for its next generation ASIC projects.

Using SpyGlass platform, including SpyGlass-Constraints and SpyGlass-DFT, Cray's design teams managed to address critical issues early at RTL on a three-crore gate design, preventing delays and iterations in the implementation and verification phases.

"For our large SoCs, we needed a methodology to manage the increased complexity of the designs. SpyGlass, combined with Constraints and DFT tools, is helping us jumpstart design closure at the RTL phase," said Peg Williams, Cray senior vice president of research and development.

Cray's adoption of Atrenta's technology followed close on the heels of STMicroelectronics' announcement of its standardisation of SpyGlass technology. When asked about the strategic outcome of these moves, Atrenta India's managing director Sushil Chander Gupta said, "Traditional gate level crunching for design closure leads to expensive iterations and disruptive delays. This is why leading-edge customers such as Cray are adopting Atrenta's 'early design closure' solution. Such adoption of Atrenta's solution will continue to gain momentum across semiconductor companies, as they try to extend their competitive advantage."

SpyGlass-Constraints ensures high quality implementation through constraint analysis and management, and is hence being adopted by many big names, said Gupta. And, SpyGlass-DFT provides test coverage at the RTL-level, and helps address testability issues early in the design cycle.

"We think that this adoption will be prominent among small-sized companies, as it reduces design cycle time. Given the complexity and short shelf life of today's designs, any time or cost advantage in design development will become a competitive advantage in the market. We expect that medium and small-sized companies across diverse verticals will continue to shift to adopting Atrenta's SpyGlass platform," Gupta said.
