Sonoscan expands FACTS production

Keywords:Sonoscan  FACTS  acoustic microscope systems  assembly line

Sonoscan has expanded and upgraded the assembly line that makes the FACTS automated acoustic microscope systems, which is widely used to identify and remove from production microelectronics components having hidden defects that can cause expensive field failures.

The system images trays of parts 24/7 without operator attention, and is frequently integrated into production lines.

"Our new assembly line increases both our capacity and our efficiency for manufacturing the FACTS system," noted Sonoscan vice president of operations Tom Kleinschmidt. "We now have a more structured working environment that includes dedicated facilities for each test position. This permits us to do all testing in the same location as assembly."

Component packaging defects typically found by the automated FACTS system include delaminations, voids and cracks, all of which can cause unanticipated electrical failures in service.
