DRAMeXchange records global own-brand DRAM makers achieved a 19.2 per cent QoQ revenue growth in Q3 on DDR2 ASP upbeat. The price uptick reflects tight supply driven by rising memory demands for Vista-compatible systems. The firm also projects a minimum of seven per cent QoQ revenues growth in Q4, amid the constant tight supply at the contract market, and production increase among DRAM makers.

According to the firm, revenues breakdown by regions in Q3 show that Korean makers took the dominant role in global DRAM supply with a market share of 41.7 per cent. Taiwan followed with a share totalled at 19.3 per cent. Over 70 per cent of global DRAM were fabricated by Asian players in Q3 if we take Japanese players into account.

In addition, since most fresh DRAM capacity in 2H06 was contributed from Taiwanese players, its market share grew from Q2's 17.8 per cent to 19.3 per cent in Q3. Among all major DRAM makers, Micron's role keeps fading out as it diverts focus on other memory chips like flash and CMOS image sensors. Corresponding market share was reduced to 12.1 per cent from 14.3 per cent of the previous quarter.

Sales breakdown by companies in Q3 highlights Samsung's leading role as it grabbed over a quarter of global market share at 25.9 per cent. Qimonda topped as the second player on solid 12-inch wafer backup support from foundry partners including both Inotera and Winbond. Those who enjoyed relatively strong QoQ sales growth momentum have tightened ties (both technology and capacity) with peers and the growth is evident among players including Qimonda, Hynix and Elpida of the top-five. ProMOS stunned Taiwanese makers with a 50 per cent QoQ growth, thanks to its ramping capacity from its Taichung fab.
