Sony Corp. has revised its business forecast downward as a result of a huge Li-ion battery recall and a delay in the introduction of its Playstation 3.

Though the company's sales forecast of about Rs.32,0697.40 crore ($69.4 billion) has not changed, operating profits is estimated to be by Rs.1,950.06 crore ($422 million), down 62 per cent from a July forecast. Net profit was revised downward to 30,9607 crore ($67 billion), or 38 per cent less than the previous forecast.

Sony plans to set aside about Rs.1,991.65 crore ($431 million) to cover the replacement of faulty battery packs used in notebook PCs made by Dell, Apple, Lenovo and others that used its Li-ion batteries.

Playstation 3 is scheduled to hit stores here in the middle of November, but shipments have been reduced to 10 lakh units by year's end, half the original plan due to a production glitch in blue lasers for Blu-Ray disc drives.
