Emulex Corp. plans to invest over Rs.46.58 crore ($10 million) to grow its design centre here, as it leverages the ASIC and embedded software product development skills of newly-acquired Indian firm Aarohi Communications.

The company plans to launch scalable IP-based storage area networking products for small and medium-sized businesses, a market segment it has been absent from, said Michael Rockenbach, executive vice president and chief financial officer. Emulex will also invest in storage research, viewed as key to developing IP and recruiting engineering talent.

Aarohi's ASIC development skills will also enable Emulex is to move some of its engineering work from the Bothell, Wash., to Bangalore, Rockenbach added.
