Fujifilm, SVA form JV to make colour filters for LCDs

Fuji Photo Film Co. Ltd and SVA Electron Co. Ltd have reached an agreement to establish a joint venture (JV), called SVA-Fujifilm Opto-Electronic Materials Co. Ltd. The JV will manufacture colour filters for TFT LCDs, and supply large-size colour filters used in laptops, monitors and large screen TVs to the Chinese market.

The new company will be capitalized at Rs.465.80 crore ($100 million) at an investment rate of 75 per cent for SVA and 25 per cent for Fujifilm. The total capital investment is expected to be aroundRs.1,257.66 crore ($270 million).

Scheduled to begin in November 2007, SVA-Fujifilm's production line will use 5th generation glass substrate (1,100-by-1,300mm). Once mass production starts, the company will have about 500 employees.
