National Instruments (NI) has released four USB-powered DAQ devices—USB-6210, USB-6211, USB-6215 and USB-6218—said to be the first bus-powered NI DAQ products to feature high-performance multifunction M Series capabilities. With low-cost and isolated options, these devices are designed for applications such as simple data logging, portable measurements and academic lab experiments.

These DAQ devices draw power directly from the USB port hence do not require an external power supply. They use NI's new signal streaming technology for high-speed data streaming over the USB cable, which the company said greatly improved sampling rate over previous bus-powered multifunction NI DAQ devices.

According to NI, the new DAQ devices feature the M Series technology, including NI-MCal for calibration at every input range that improves measurement accuracy, and the NI-PGIA 2 family of programmable-gain instrumentation amplifiers, which reduces settling time to ensure accurate measurements even at the fastest scanning rates. With M Series capabilities, the company said these devices offer sampling rates five times faster than existing NI bus-powered USB multifunction DAQ devices.

The new DAQ devices are available with up to 32 16bit, 250KSps analogue input channels and up to two 16bit, 250KSps analogue output channels. In addition, USB-6215 and USB-6218 offer built-in isolation technology that promises safer measurements by electrically separating the sensor signals, which can be exposed to hazardous voltages.

The four new devices feature up to eight digital input and output channels and two 32bit counter/timers. They also ship with NI-DAQmx driver and measurement services software, a collection of powerful tools that promises faster and simpler system setup.
