Dongbu Electronics, a Seoul-based pure-play semiconductor foundry, said it has developed process design kits (PDKs) for high-voltage semiconductor devices in collaboration with Cadence Design Systems Inc.

Dongbu said these PDKs have been developed for use in designs for 60V-level semiconductors, supporting 0.35μn bipolar, CMOS and DMOS process technologies used by Dongbu.

The PDKs provide a link between foundry process data and the tools used in custom, analogue and mixed-signal design methodologies, speeding design and production of high-voltage chips, according to the company. High-voltage ICs are used in automotive and motor applications, display drive ICs, computer peripherals and mobile devices.

Dongbu said its PDK development is part of a project sponsored by the South Korean Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy to develop technologies for high-voltage devices.

The Korean industry, which heavily relies on imports of the high-voltage semiconductor devices, could gain import substitutions totalling Rs.928.80 crore ($200 million) after the project is completed.
