SMK's two-dome switch

SMK has announced the development and sampling of a two-dome switch that promises to meet the market demand for better stress resistance and reduced size. According to the company, the new switch uses an exclusive mechanism that is free of parts such as key stems, and its height has been reduced to suit shorter and smaller equipment design. The switch also uses a spring contact system that allows the switch to be mounted by pressing it on the PWB, thus enhancing mounting strength and equipment reliability. The device's solder-free mountability also eases the recycling process, giving an environmental benefit.

Targeting mobile phones and portable audio devices, the new switch has a rating of 10mA, 12Vdc; an operation force of 1.5N ± 0.5N; and, an operation distance of 0.2mm + 0.15mm -0.08mm. It measures 13.9-by-0.9-by-5.35mm.

Product samples started shipping this month while production volumes will start shipping in September 2006. Sample price is Rs.39.87 (87 cents) each.
