Handheld DMM works in 28 frequency ranges

B&K Precision Corp.'s Model 2890A Deluxe Dual Display 51,000-count digital multimeter (DMM) is a part of the company's line of test-and-measurement gear. It provides readings and information on an alpha-numeric display.

The handheld battery-powered and power-managed DMM offers true-RMS for AC volts and AC current. It's priced at Rs.13,978.15 ($305). Interestingly enough for an instrument in this price range, the Model 2890A includes a squarewave output function. It works in 28 frequency ranges with adjustable duty cycle.

In addition to the DMM's two backlit 5-digit LCD readouts that can display both AC volts and frequency simultaneously, the metre can be used to measure DC volts, DC current, AC current, and resistance (up to 500 MΩ).

Reciprocal readings
If you need to measure higher values of resistance, the unit includes a reciprocal conductance function. Conductance measurements can be made up to 50mhos, with 0.01mho resolution. It also includes a diode check function, and has an audible continuity feature. What's more, the 2890A can measure temperature using thermocouples, measure frequency to 20MHz, measure duty cycle, and measure pulse width.

The DMM's display also shows an analogue-like bar graph indicator. You also get a 1ms Peak Hold feature for glitch capture purposes.

The Model 2890A measures about 192-by-90-by-37mm and weighs 936g. It's shipped with a 9V battery, test leads, a carrying holster and a manual. A line of optional accessories is also available. These include software for USB connectivity.
