SigmaTel Inc. has announced that the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) confirmed a previous ITC administrative law judge's ruling that Actions Semiconductor Co. Ltd infringed the two patents, U.S. Patent Nos. 6,366,522 and 6,633,187, asserted by SigmaTel.

On March 21, 2006, Honorable Paul J. Luckern, an Administrative Law Judge with the ITC, issued an opinion that Actions Semi infringed two SigmaTel patents. With respect to the company's '187 patent, the ITC confirmed Judge Luckern's infringement findings in their entirety. As to '522 patent, the ITC also confirmed the findings, with the exception of one particular firmware version, which was sent back to Judge Luckern for additional review.

The ITC, however, postponed issuance of its final decision until September 15th, 2006. If the ITC affirms Judge Luckern's original remedy recommendations, an exclusion order will be issued.

"SigmaTel is pleased that the ITC largely confirmed Judge Luckern's infringement findings," said Ron Edgerton, chairman and CEO of SigmaTel. "We look forward to receiving the commission's final decision on September 15, 2006."
