QuickLogic Corp. has started production shipments of the QL1P075 and the QL1P100 members of its PolarPro family whose devices are claimed to be the industry's lowest power family of FPGAs.

QuickLogic has announced engineering samples of the PolarPro family in December of 2005, and has now delivered production silicon within four months.

Quiescent or standby current is a critical factor determining battery life in portable and handheld consumer electronics. Architected specifically to address this factor, the Very Low Power (VLP) mode integrated into PolarPro devices exhibit quiescent current nearly half that of the closest "zero power" CPLD, 98 per cent less than the closest Flash-based FPGA, and 99 per cent less than the closest SRAM-based FPGA.

The first two members of the PolarPro family, the QL1P075 and QL1P100, are now in production. QuickLogic expects to sample the QL1P300 during the second quarter, with production expected later in 2006.
