IR transceivers support IrDA high-speed IrSimpleShot protocol

Vishay Intertechnology is adding two infrared transceivers to its optoelectronics portfolio that support the IrDA high-speed IrSimpleShot protocol for beaming digital pictures directly from camera phones to TVs, printers and other enabled camera phones.

The TFDU6300 and TFDU6301 devices provide the 4Mbps data rate required by IrSimpleShot within a miniaturized package that fits current compact mobile phones, digital still cameras and TVs. With dimensions of 2.5-by-3-by-8.3mm, these transceivers require minimal battery power due to their low receive operating (or idle) current of 1.8mA and shutdown current of 0.01μA, Vishay said.

The operating voltage range of these devices ranges from 2.4V to 3.6V. The TFDU6300 I/O voltage is dependent on the voltage of the external power supply. The TFDU6301 I/O voltage is 1.8V; allowing direct connection to a microcontroller's I/Os with 1.8V logic.

The IrSimpleShot technology was developed by companies including NTT DoCoMo and Sharp based on IrDA and remote control technologies. The technology is said to allow users to beam photos directly to TVs and printers without the need for cables.

The latest transceivers are compliant with IrDA Physical Layer, transmitting data over distances upwards of 0.7m. They can transmit TV remote control signals over distances of up to 25m, and are pin-compatible with Vishay's TFDU4300 (SIR, 115Kbps) and TFDU5307 (MIR, 1Mbps).

Both devices are lead-free and capable of lead-free processing in accordance with RoHS 2002/95/EC and WEEE 2002/96/EC. The transceivers have integrated EMI protection so no external shield is required.

Samples and production quantities are already available with lead times of four weeks.
