AVR flash MCUs qualified for automotive segment

Atmel Corp. has announced four AEC Q100-qualified AVR flash microcontrollers designed for the automotive segment. The ATmega48, ATmega88, ATmega168 and the AT90CAN128 have been developed and manufactured according to the ISO-TS-16949 standard. They are available in three different automotive temperature ranges (-400C to 850C, 1050C and 1250C), and are suited for power train, body, chassis, safety and security applications.

The product has a 1 MIPS AVR RISC-engine at low operating voltage (2.7-5.5V) and an on-chip hardware multiplier. The microcontrollers achieve throughput approaching one MIPS per MHz, allowing the designer to optimise power consumption versus processing speed, while still complying with EMI requirements, said the company.

The AVR devices integrate a number of features, such as an embedded flash programme memory and EEPROM to store data, a variable gain amplifier, a 10bit ADC, an analogue comparator, an on-chip calibrated 8MHz RC oscillator, a power-on-reset, a brownout detector and a watchdog with specific oscillator.

The ATmega48/88/168 microcontrollers support a four, eight and 16Kbyte flash memory, respectively. The AT90CAN128 integrates in a single chip a V2.0A/V2.0B CAN controller and a 128Kbyte flash programme memory.

The ATmega48/88/168 microcontrollers are available in 32-pin TQFP and QFN packages, while the AT90CAN128 is available in 64-pin TQFP and QFN packages. Pricing for ATmega48 is Rs.54.58 ($1.21), ATmega88 is $1.69, ATmega168 is Rs.92.93 ($2.06) and AT90CAN128 for Rs.360.88 ($8). The AVR suite of development tools also supports the automotive AVR microcontrollers.
