Keywords:Information Network  semiconductor  photomask

The global semiconductor photomask market will post a slower growth of 4.3 per cent after showing robust sales for the past few years, according to research firm The Information Network.

The company said that despite the expected higher growth in semiconductors, the photomask market will see lower growth this year, compared to growth rates of 18.7 per cent and 9.7 per cent in 2004 and 2005, respectively.

According to Robert Castellano, president of The Information Network, an uptrend in the market does not mean an increase in revenues since photomasks are more of a design than production material. In addition, makers prefer allotting investments in production expansions rather than in design or R&D.

Last year, Japan led the photomask market in terms of revenues, with a 21 per cent growth. Production in Europe, meanwhile registered an increase of 3.9 per cent, and the North American market remained unchanged with a revenue of Rs.1,475.10 ($327 million).
