PDP makers to increase product capacities

Several PDP makers in Asia have announced their plans to increase product capacities within the next two years, remaining optimistic of market expectations in the segment.

South Korea-based Samsung SDI Co. Ltd disclosed that it will invest in its fourth PDP line, with mass production scheduled to begin in Q2 of 2007. According to the company, it plans to reach an annual capacity of lakh 73 (7.3 million) units of 42-inch panels.

LG Electronics Inc., another South Korean manufacturer, said it will complete the second-stage capacity expansion of its A3 plant in Kumi in the second half of the year. The company shared that it aims to reach a monthly capacity of 550,000 units of PDPs by year-end, and an annual capacity of 87.6 lakh (8.76 million) units by end-2007.

Japan-based Matsushita Electric Ind. Co. Ltd is currently setting up its PDP facility. The plant will have an annual capacity of 60 lakh (6 million) units, with volume production scheduled to commence in 2007. According to Matsushita, it expects the plant to reach its full capacity of 1.19 crore (11.9 million) per year units by early 2009.
