India's electronics, IT exports grew 27%

India's electronics and IT exports are estimated to have grown 27 per cent in 2005 to 2006 to reach Rs.1,11,700 crore, compared to the Rs.88,180 crore in the 2004 to 2005 range, according to a news article in the Hindu Business Line, which cited the Department of Information Technology as its source.

Meanwhile, the consumer electronics sector is estimated to have reached a production capacity of Rs.18,500 crores between 2005 and 2006, compared to the Rs.16,800 crores in the same period the previous year, for a growth of 10 per cent.

According to the report, the high growth segments during the year were colour TVs, DVD players and home theatre systems. Colour TV production increased to over 1.1 crore (11 million) units between 2005 and 2006. For the same period, sales of personal computers are estimated to reach 47 lakh units.

The report also observed that the prices of colour TVs and computers have declined, which is in line with the worldwide trend.
