Keywords:A7282  GPS receiver IC  AMIC Communication Corp.

AMIC Communication Corp. launched A7282, its first GPS receiver IC. The chip integrates an LNA, image rejected mixer, IF band pass filer, IF VGA amplifier, voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO), PLL, 2bit ADC and internal regulator.

According to AMIC, the A7282 does not need an external IF filer and VCO tank components. Instead, only a bypass capacitor, external LNA and RF filter are required. The product is a single conversion receiver that downconverts the 1,575.42MHz GPS signal to 4.092MHz IF. The on-chip 2bit ADC samples the IF signal and outputs the digitized signals to a baseband correlator.

The receiver IC operates from a supply voltage of 2.4V to 3.6V over the -40°C to 85°C temperature range. It is placed in a 32-pin QFN package measuring 5-by-5mm. The product suits telemetric equipment, PDAs, handheld GPS devices, asset tracking and vehicle navigation systems.
