Avocent Corp. and Agilent Technologies Inc. announced that they have signed an agreement for Avocent to purchase assets and to licence technology used by Agilent in its remote management business.
Agilent's customers for this product line will be obtaining products and services from Avocent. The purchase of this business line is not expected to be material to Avocent's financial results for the Q1 of 2006. Remote management products allow administrators to remotely connect to and manage systems, ensuring cost savings for IT managers.
Agilent's remote management products include integrated hardware solutions and management software that ensure higher availability of business-critical systems, such as servers. Agilent products that will be transferred to Avocent include integrated remote management chips and cards, and software utilities.
"As the KVM [keyboard, video, mouse] and remote management market leader, our customers look to us to raise the bar to push remote management technology to the next level," said Mark Lee, senior vice president and general manager, Avocent Corp. "Agilent's products complement Avocent's products. We plan to leverage their expertise to provide additional integrated solutions that include IPMI, KVM and SMASH technologies."
