PowerRail distribution system

Methode Network Bus Products and Cableco Technologies, divisions of Methode Electronics Inc., have developed a pluggable rail power distribution system. The PowerRail solution is said to offer a significant cost savings versus traditional power distribution systems due to its standard design, easier installation and fewer components.

A key feature of the PowerRail is its unique design that integrates low-voltage drop louver contacts into a bus bar. This design is said to allow users to easily customize the bus bar length, power input and mating connections to build a quick disconnect power bus.

The PowerRail is available in single-, double- or triple-rail standard models and can be designed for applications requiring additional rails. Louver contacts are available in silver or tin plating. Power ranges from 200A to 2,000A and runs the full length of the rail. The rail is powder coated to insulate the bar. Other features include high dielectric strength epoxy insulation, maximum operating temperature of 125°C and adjustable mounting feet. The power distribution system also has a UL94 V-0 flammability rating and is RoHS compliant.

The interconnect system can be either another bus bar or a cable and connector system, which is available in one or two tab connectors. The double-tab models include a polarizer to ensure proper connection to the rails. Bus bars can be designed according to application specifications. Applications include rack-mounted systems, UPS, motor drives, telecommunication switching systems, routers, blade servers, mass memory storage and test equipment.

The PowerRail is priced at Rs.3,318.75 ($75) per foot for a single 2,000A rail (1.82m long) in quantities of 100.
