MindTree Consulting announced at the CeBIT international show that its v2.0+ EDR Bluetooth protocol stack and application profiles are delivering wireless capabilities within Analog Devices Inc.'s (ADI) Blackfin-based portable media player (PMP) and hands free car kit reference (HFCK) platforms, according to a news report in Design and Reuse.

As part of the ADI's Blackfin platforms, MindTree's Bluetooth technology enables features such as hands free calling, accessing and synchronising phone book contacts, transferring photos wirelessly, transferring GPS data for navigation purposes, and using the mobile phone as a dial-up modem for Internet connectivity, on the PMP and HFCK platforms.

Mikhael Haidar, general manager of software and systems technology group at ADI, said that Blackfin processors can run multimedia, communications and control software equally well. "Our reference designs capitalise on this unique capability. MindTree provides a mature and proven technology solution for our next-generation, feature-rich PMP and HFCK platforms. With the phenomenal growth of hands-free wireless devices for the worldwide automotive market over the last year, and the explosive growth of personal entertainment devices, we are confident our Blackfin platforms will deliver high-performance infotainment solutions for our consumer and automotive electronics OEM and ODM customers," said Haidar.

The automotive market is demanding wireless applications such as car diagnostics sent wirelessly to a mechanic's terminal, MP3 or video file transmission to portable units, rear seat entertainment from a media player-cum-hands-free kit in a car or larger automobile, personal area networking allowing passengers to play multiplayer games, and data synchronization between an in-car unit and handhelds.

MindTree Research offers complete suites of Bluetooth-based solutions in the industry, which includes the EtherMind 2.0 Upper Layer Stack and Profiles, and the BlueWiz 2.0 ready Baseband Controller. Having invested over 300 person years in Bluetooth technology, MindTree Research focuses on building MindTree's competence in the short range wireless technology domain with a view to create licensable building blocks that help customers achieve cost and time-to-market benefits.

MindTree Research is part of MindTree's R&D Services business which combines expertise in semiconductor IP, hardware and software to offer complete product realization services.
