Samsung India Electronics Ltd announced that its goal for 2006 is to triple its sales for TFT LCD monitors, indicating plans to focus on the corporate segment. The company intends to increase its LCD monitor market share to 50 per cent this year from 33 per cent in 2005.

"TFT LCD monitors certainly represent a big focus area for Samsung," said Princy Bhatnagar, head of the company's IT sales. "We will be focusing more on the [corporations] to [expand] the market for our LCD monitors."

Bhatnagar added that Samsung India is also targeting the household electronics segment for its high-end LCD monitors through promotions and offers. "We have introduced the 'Awesome Twosome' offer whereby any customer buying a 17in Samsung TFT LCD monitor gets [one] ML 1610 printer free with the product."

The company plans to establish about 15 IT stores in the country this year. It will also expand its LCD product range at its consumer electronic sales branches, or Samsung Digital Home outlets.

"The LCD monitor market is expected to grow from the current 66 per cent to 84 per cent by 2008 in the color monitor market globally," noted Bhatnagar. He said that the LCD market in India is estimated at 400,000 units, with increasing preference for the 17-inch monitors and larger screens.
