Keywords:MAX11041  receiver IC  wired remote controller  Maxim Integrated Products

Maxim Integrated Products Inc. introduced a wired, remote-controller receiver IC for portable media players. The MAX11041 decodes up to 31 resistor values on an external, wired remote controller composed of pushbutton/membrane switches and one per cent resistors. The device's architecture allows use of standard 3.5mm headphone jacks by multiplexing the remote signal onto the audio path through external DC-blocking capacitors. Alternatively, this device can utilise a single dedicated wire over the fourth connector of a standard 4-pin stereo headphone jack.

The MAX11041 continuously polls the keys while consuming 8μW (5μA at 1.6V to 3.6V). An I2C interface with eight-byte FIFO and interrupt notifies the host microcontroller of keystroke presence and records up to four different key states. Besides detecting keys, this device records key duration for advanced user-interface features. It detects simultaneous keys and implements a hold function to prevent inadvertent key presses. The MAX11041 also features automatic key de-bounce and switch-chatter rejection. The MAX11041 is available in 4 by 4mm, 12-pin TQFN and 2 by 2mm UCSP packages that operate over the -45°C to 85°C temperature range. Prices start at Rs.42.50 (96 cents) in quantities of 25,000 pieces and up.
