Chipworks analyses Intel's 65nm Pressler processor

Chipworks announced that they have analyzed the Intel 65nm "Pressler" processor, Intel part number BX80553920. Chipworks is taking immediate orders for its structural analysis report (SAR-0602-801) and DC transistor characterisation report (TCR-0602-801) on the Intel CPU.

"The industry has eagerly awaited the availability of 65nm and its promise of improved capability and performance. Today, Chipworks is the first to take customers inside 65nm," said Terry Ludlow, Chipworks founder and CEO. "Our analyses will reveal the structural and process elements Intel used to improve transistor performance while claiming to reduce the levels of power generation and consumption."

Chipworks' report will include an analysis on Intel 65nm design elements that have led to performance improvements, which are claimed to include: NiSi for low resistance; second generation strained silicon; reduced gate length and gate oxide thickness; eight copper layers and the use of low-k dielectrics; and 0.57µm2 SRAM cell size.

The report will also cover: Linear threshold voltage (VT, lin), transfer characteristic shift (ΔVGS), saturation threshold voltage? (VT, sat), sub-threshold swing (S), transconductance (gm), on-state drive current (ION), off-state leakage current (IOFF), on-state resistance RON, channel length modulation parameter (λ), punch-through voltage (VPT) and body effect (gamma).
