USB-IF certifies Atmel Flash MCU's USB 2.0 interface

Atmel Corp. announced that it has been granted certification by the USB Implementers Forum (USB-IF) for its AT91SAM7S64 ARM-based 32-bit Flash microcontroller. This certification confirms that the USB 2.0 Full Speed Device interface embedded in the AT91SAM7S64 is fully compliant with the relevant USB standard.

"USB connectivity is an essential attribute of our fast-growing ARM-based microcontroller family," said Jacko Wilbrink, Atmel's ARM MCU marketing manager. "The USB-IF certification confirms that the SAM7S64 is fully USB compliant. Users can be assured that the USB connections in our ARM-based microcontrollers will work correctly under all circumstances."

The AT91SAM7S is a series of ARM-based 32-bit Flash MCU SoC incorporating numerous innovative features. These include an advanced interrupt controller for enhanced real-time performance, a peripheral DMA controller for rapid transfers between peripherals and memory, register bit operations to simplify peripheral programming, a power-management controller to optimise power utilisation in all operational modes and a system controller for power-up, power-down and brownout control.

The AT91SAM7X series focuses the functionality of the AT91SAM7S series on connectivity applications, featuring both Ethernet and CAN ports, in addition to the USB 2.0 Full Speed Device in common with the SAM7S. The SAM7XC variant features hardware accelerators for AES and Triple DES encryption for enhanced security. All AT91SAM products use the same IP blocks.
