Analog Devices Inc. (ADI) has launched its flagship device in a family of analogue front ends (AFEs) that is said to boost signal conversion performance by 30 per cent in high-definition (HD) image/video processing applications.

The AD9970 AFE consists of a 14bit ADC operating at 155mW at 65MSPS, a variable gain amplifier (VGA) and correlated double sampler (CDS) in a 5-by-5mm package. A programmable timing driver boosts performance by enabling localized control of high-speed CCD clock signals, according to Stuart Boyd, ADI's product line director, high-speed signal processing business. Boyd added that the AD9970 is one of the first AFEs on the market to use a low-voltage differential signalling (LVDS) interface for HD imaging equipment.

The AD9970 AFE is available for Rs.492.42 ($10.74) per unit in 1,000-piece quantities in a 5-by-5mm LFCSP. It is specified over an operating temperature range of -25°C to 85°C.
