The new thin-film RF inductor from AVX Corp. offers high Q and tight tolerances with high current handling capability as well as repeatability in a small 0402 case size.

With its land grid array (LGA) packaging and small size, the new L0402 inductor provides both high frequency performance and rugged construction for automatic assembly in applications such as mobile communications, satellite TV receivers, GPS, vehicle location systems, wireless LANs, filters and matching networks.

The L0402 offers an inductance range of .82 nH to 6.8 nH. Touted as a thin-film equivalent of wirewound inductors, the company said the L0402 inductor is capable of any value in the range at tolerances that are much tighter than those offered by wirewound inductors. It also offers high current in a surface-mount package so there is no constraint in values as exhibited with wirewound inductors.

In addition, the LGA offers an inherent low profile, excellent solderability and better heat dissipation, while allowing for self-alignment during reflow, said the company.

Pricing for the L0402 inductor ranges from $0.10 to $0.30 in quantity. Delivery is stock to six weeks.
