ERNI's new M8 male and female connectors are designed for automation technology. The first products will be 3- and 4-pin female connectors, and a 4-pin version of the male connector. These connectors can be used to build a flexible I/O-connection on the circuit board. By employing surface-mount technology termination, ERNI is enabling customers for the first time to consistently miniaturize their field devices, said the press release.

The interconnect geometry complies with the IEC 61067-2-101 standard. When the connector is plugged in, its protection rating meets IP67 in accord with the IEC 61076-2-101 standard. The traditional range of applications includes connecting sensors and actuators in automation technology, said ERNI. Now, however, the space-saving M8 connectors are also being used for power-supply and bus connections where M12 connectors or others are too large. Unlike the M12 connectors, M8 connectors are coded only via the contact arrangement, added the company.

The new connectors are already available, with pricing for the female connector starting at $2.10.
