you should learn about FPGA;
design warrior's guide to fpga  , by Clive Maxfield is a good book to start;
and preferable you should learn any HDL too; as systemC is not appropriate at RTl level.
xilinx provide free tools for fpga programming

For DIGITAL DOMAIN: Learn Verilog, testbench concepts.Knowing VHDL is added advantage. Learn one particular FPGA Family architecture in Deep. Say Spartan6 from Xilinx. Even You can get Avnet low cost FPGA board (microLX) to play with . I Think microLX costs 5K. Do an IP so you can learn by yourself.
