Motor pre-driver IC targets safety-critical automotive apps

Toshiba America Electronic Components Inc. has introduced the TB9052FNG motor pre-driver IC intended for safety-critical automotive applications such as electric power steering (EPS) and other systems compliant with Automotive Safety Integrity Level D (ASIL D), the most rigorous measure defined within functional safety standard ISO 26262.

In addition to the main pre-driver circuit, TB9052FNG features a built-in motor current detection circuit in a redundant configuration, reducing board size and system complexity while contributing to functional safety. Also contributing to functional safety are the product's range of circuits that detect system failures, including battery under-voltage, 5V undervoltage, overtemperature and driver electrical short, detailed Toshiba.

The TB9052FNG pre-driver IC has four channels, two high-side and two low-side, and includes a charge pump to solely drive N-channel MOSFETs. It is contained in a HTSSOP48-P-300-0.50 package measuring 12.5 x 6.1 x 1.2mm. Operating voltage range is 6-18V and operating temperature range is from -40°C to 125°C.

Sample shipments will start in August, with mass production scheduled to begin in March 2015. Toshiba will also be supplying associated safety analysis documentation.
