Micro DC/DC converters with integrated coil

Torex Semiconductor Ltd has unleashed a series of step-down "micro DC/DC" converters with integrated coil. The ultra-small XCL213/XCL214 series (external dimensions: 2.5 x 3.2 x 1mm) claims to achieve a level of miniaturisation and profile reduction that the company said puts these converters in the world's smallest class for a load current of 1.5A.

The converters, according to the firm, help save board mounting area and reduce development time because a power circuit can be created by simply adding two ceramic capacitors as external components. The built-in coil simplifies the board layout, making it possible to minimise unwanted radiation noise and operational trouble.

The operating voltage range is 2.7-5.5V, and the output voltage is selectable from 0.8-3.6V (accuracy ±2 per cent) in steps of 0.05V. The switching frequency is 3MHz (accuracy ±15 per cent), and PWM control (XCL213) or PWM/PFM auto switching control (XCL214) can be selected based on the control method.

The XCL213/XCL214 series use HiSAT-COT and are intended for portable devices and digital devices that have a DDR or CPU memory that requires a fast transient response.

This series is a sister product of our XCL205/XCL206/XCL207 series, XCL201/XCL202 series and XCL208/XCL209 series. This series is an environment-friendly product that complies with the EU RoHS Directive and is Pb-free, added Torex.
