Apple Inc. has reportedly qualified Taiwan-based ODM Wistron for iPad mini production. According to DigiTimes report, Wistron will join Foxconn Electronics and Pegatron as a producer of iPad mini producer.

As part of the process to qualify for the contract, Wistron was required to set up the production facilities for the tablet. “In order to enter Apple’s supply chain, Wistron has set up dedicated production lines to meet Apple’s strict requirements.”

Wistron has a record of mass producing mobile devices for other brands so there is a chance that its iPad Mini contract with Apple will be extended for future collaboration, said DigiTimes.

Wistron, which manufactures tablets, smartphones, and notebooks for other brands, is expected to begin iPad mini production in 2014 or 2015.
