With an aim to focus more on LEDs and other flat panel products, LG Electronics India said it would phase out LCD production in the next few months, according to a report by PTI.

"The company will focus on LEDs and ultra HD LED TVs. The production of LCDs will be stopped in India as the demand has declined sharply," PTI quoted Rishi Tandan, India marketing head-home entertainment, LG Electronics.

Televisions brings the major business to LG India's home entertainment division – a division that accounted for about 38 per cent of the company's overall revenue of Rs.16,000 crore in 2012.

"The company plans to launch 45 new models in flat panels in the country," Tandan said.

According to PTI, LG is also planning to introduce thinner, lighter, and brighter OLED TVs, which are claimed as theext step in the evolution of TVs.

However, the company said it would continue to sell CRT television sets as long as there's market demand.
