Analog Devices Inc. has unveiled the CN0267 demonstration circuit for a loop powered Highway Addressable Remote Transducer (HART) enabled smart transmitter aimed at industrial applications that need to operate within a set 3.5mA power budget. According to the company, the field instrument circuit demonstrates a complete low power, high precision signal chain solution with minimum area overhead.

This circuit has been compliance tested, verified and registered as an approved HART solution by the HART Communication Foundation. This ensures that systems designed with these ADI devices will adhere to HART protocol requirements and that DEMO-AD5700D2Z is a proven, tested solution, the company stated.

Combining the lowest power components in their class, the solution enables system engineers to support increased system functionality including the communications of diagnostics and additional measurement or calibration data. The 7 x 2.3cm CN0267 PCB demonstrates a direct sensor interface, microprocessor and two-way HART communication over a 4-20mA loop.

CN0267 combines three of ADI's lowest power, high performance components, optimised for field instrument designs.

The ADuCM360, a low power, fully integrated, 3.9kSPS, 24bit data acquisition SoC incorporating dual, sigma-delta ADC, a 32bit ARM Cortex M3 MCU and flash/EE memory. Using less than 1mA of operating current, it delivers more processing-per-mW of power than any other analogue MC within its class, noted ADI.

The AD5421, is a loop powered, 16bit, 4-20mA DAC that incorporates a programmable voltage regulator used to power the demonstration board. The AD5421 consumes less than 300µA of quiescent current providing a 50 per cent power saving and a 55 per cent footprint saving over competing offerings.

The AD5700 is a complete HART modem IC, consuming 38 per cent less power and supporting a greater than 75 per cent saving in board area over alternative products, indicated the company.

The DEMO-AD5700D2Z is available for Rs.4,838.71 ($90) (per unit). The AD5421BREZ, AD5700BCPZ-RL7 and ADUCM360BCPZ128 are available for Rs.298.39 ($5.55), Rs.239.25 ($4.45) and Rs.461.29 ($8.58), respectively.
