AMD launches 'Piledriver' processors

AMD rolls out four new members of the AMD FX family of CPUs featuring the Piledriver multi-core architecture. The CPUs are said to increase performance by 15 per cent but cost less than the previous generation of CPUs.

The CPUs are designed for multi-threaded applications like content creation, video and audio encoding, and games, allowing users extreme responsiveness and mega-tasking performance.

The first of the new AMD FX CPUs is the FX-8350 priced at $195 with 8 CPU cores, 4.2MHz maximum frequency, 1,024KB per core L2 cache, 8MB L3 cache and 1.866MHz DDR3 external memory.

The FX-8320 is priced at $169 with 8 CPU cores, 4MHz maximum frequency, 1,024KB per core L2 cache, 8MB L3 cache and 1.866MHz DDR3 external memory.

The FX-6300 is priced at $132 with 6 CPU cores, 4.1MHz maximum frequency, 1,024KB per core L2 cache, 8MB L3 cache and 1.866MHz DDR3 external memory.

The last is the FX-4300 is priced at $122 with 4 CPU cores, 4MHz maximum frequency, 1,024KB per core L2 cache, 4MB L3 cache and 1.866MHz DDR3 external memory.

The CPUs are available now.
