Infosys said it will expand its product research and development centre in India by doubling the headcount to 1,000 engineers over the next two years. Currently, Infosys' product R&D centre employs 500 engineers and plans to add 500 more in the next two years.

"The company aims to accelerate design and development of its offerings, through engineering innovation."

Reportedly, majority of the hires would be based out of Bangalore, Hyderabad and Pune centres.

The product R&D team is responsible for developing products and platforms, leveraging technologies in the areas of cloud computing, mobility, analytics, and social media.

"Innovations in social media, cloud, mobility and big data are opening new doors for businesses globally. Led by engineering innovation, the centre is creating products and platforms that harness these opportunities and deliver long term competitive advantages to our clients," said Subu Goparaju, senior vice president and head, Infosys Labs and product R&D, Infosys.

The centre has developed products including Supply Chain Performance Management Suite, Distributor Connect, and Omni-Channel Personalisation Engine.
