Vytran introduces the GPX-3600 optical fibre glass processor, a multipurpose system for handling optical fibres with diameters up to 1.8mm.

This ability to process very large diameter fibres lets users handle new applications. For example, it can process high-power fibre delivery applications that need special splicing, such as an 800µm-diameter fibre to a 1.8mm-diameter fibre,

It can also splice multiple small fibres to a large-diameter output fibre or rods. The GPX-3600 can also create high-count fibre combiners, including 37:1 and 61:1, and large-diameter end caps.

Vytran's GPX-3000 series of glass processors are used for R&D and production in markets ranging from fibre laser and sensing to medical and aerospace and defence. The systems allow users to create high-performance splices and fibre-based fused components such as combiners, tapers, mode converters, couplers and end caps, and can be used for processes such as thermal core expansion and mode field adapting. GPX systems accommodate fibre diameters as small as 125µm and, in the case of the GPX-3600, as large as 1.8mm.
