Near Field Communication (NFC) is a technology that enables contactless communication between devices providing end users with an easier and more convenient way to make transactions.

Due to its low power, inherent security, interoperability, versatility, and low cost, it is a technology that is increasingly growing in popularity, covering and expanding to areas like consumer electronics, healthcare, electric meters, eCommerce, identity, transport, etc.

The integration of NFC in next-generation cell phones, laptops, and tablets will provide end users and developers with a complete new range of possibilities to explore, and Texas Instruments provides the tools to help developers go to market faster and easier.

One of the areas of interest during development of such applications is the capability to upgrade firmware in the field, and the purpose of this application report is to explain the implementation of a bootstrap loader (BSL) based on the MSP430F5xx/F6xx devices.
