Analogue growth seen in communications market

Keywords:Communications analogue  analogue suppliers  major market

Databeans indicates communications as being the largest and most important market for analogue suppliers taking over more than one-third the value of the analogue IC market. This is expected to be further fuelled by the rapid growth in RF power amplifier and transceiver components as a result of the rising demand for wireless handsets and infrastructure.

Special purpose communications analogue revenue is estimated to be growing at 12 per cent annually on average. Expect special purpose communications analogue products revenue to be higher, driven by the increased demand from portable electronics generally, 4G handsets, network upgrades, and by increasing consumption by the Asia Pacific region.

Special Purpose Wireless Analogue component examples include analogue base band processing chips, transceivers, and specialised amplifiers. These devices are used in cell phones, smart phones, base stations, in short-range wireless applications, and in 2-way radio and cordless phones. This is by far the largest category in terms of special purpose communications analogue product revenue, with a majority share of the market. By revenue, this is the largest product category for special purpose communications analogue, at 88 per cent of the market. It is expected to continue high growth of 13 per cent over the forecast period.

Special Purpose Wired Analogue includes application specific components used in modems, set-top boxes, and in PBX, VOIP, and central office applications. Most analogue components here are used for data conversion, in support of the other (digital) circuits. Databeans expects that this product segment will be the slowest growing for special purpose communications analogue, due to lack of innovation relative to the other wireless segments. This is becoming a commodity-type market segment, despite some demand. For the forecast period, revenue will grow at an average rate of 3 per cent. Revenue of Rs.6,849.32 crore ($1.5 billion) is expected for 2011.
