Chip resistors optimised for space, aviation apps

Vishay Precision Group Inc. unveils a series of ultra-high-precision Z1-Foil wrap-around chip resistors optimised for a wide variety of demanding high-precision, high-temperature applications, including space and aviation.

The FRSM series is based on Vishay Foil Resistors' Z1-Foil technology with load-life stability of 0.0025 per cent (25ppm) at 70°C and rated power for 2,000 hours and 0.005 per cent for 10,000 hours, low typical TCR of 0.05ppm/°C from 0°C to -60°C and ±0.2 ppm/°C from -55°C to -125°C, +25°C ref., power TCR (delta R due to self-heating) of 5ppm at rated power, and tight tolerances to 0.01 per cent.

With load-life stability of 0.0025 per cent, the resistors are noise-free and provide ESD protection of 25kV or more for increased reliability. The devices' solid element alloy is matched to the substrate, forming a single entity with balanced resistance versus temperature characteristics for low and predictable TCR over a wide temperature range from -55°C to -175°C. The adhesive that holds the foil to the flat substrate withstands high temperatures, pulsing power, moisture incursions, shock and vibration, and low-temperature exposure, while holding securely to the foil element. Resistance patterns are photo-etched into the element to permit the trimming of resistance values to tight tolerances as low as 0.01 per cent.

Offered in six chip sizes from 0603 to 2512, the FRSM series features a wide resistance range from 5Ω to 125kΩ. Within this range, any 'as required' value (e.g. 1.2345 vs. 1kΩ) can be supplied at no extra cost or delivery time. The resistors feature power ratings to 750mW at +70°C, a rise time of 1.0ns with effectively no ringing, a thermal stabilisation time of less than 1s (nominal value achieved within 10ppm of steady state value), current noise of 0.010µV rms/V of applied voltage (less than -40dB), and a voltage co-efficient of less than 0.1ppm/V. The RoHS-compliant devices offer a non-inductive (less than 0.08µH), non-capacitive design, and are available in matched sets upon request.

The devices also offer high levels of performance for differential amplifiers, switching power supplies, weighing systems, electron microscopes, measurement systems, mass flow meters, pressure controllers, medical instrumentation, down-hole equipment, data acquisition and control systems, and more.

Samples and production quantities of the FRSM series are available now, with lead times of five days for samples, and eight weeks for standard orders.
