Texas Instruments Inc. debuts credit-card-sized, low-cost TMDX5502EZDSP and TMDX5509EZDSP development tools designed for the TMS320C5000 digital signal processor (DSP). It also offers cable-free, easy USB plug-in feature for laptop or workstation enabling hassle-free development and a simple out-of-the-box experience.

The eZdsp development tools feature up to 300MHz of performance for the C5502 and 200MHz for the C5509A.

Containing a broad mix of interfacing options, the eZdsp USB development tools are designed for applications such as voice, audio, musical instruments and accessories, medical monitoring and fingerprint biometrics.

To support easy development, both tools include a comprehensive suite of support software and sample code.

The energy-efficient tools, C5509A at 0.96mW/MHz at 200MHz and 1.6V core and the C5502 at 1mW/MHz at 300MHz and 1.26V core, allows developers to implement applications having low power, low cost signal processing requirements and evaluate DSP performance.

They also feature integrated XDS100v2 emulator which eliminates the need for a separate JTAG emulator to start development. Additional feature include Code Composer Studio (CCS) integrated development environment (IDE) v4 software, optimised DSP library, Image Library, Telecom Library (fax and voice), Chip Support Library and on-board audio codecs and connectors.

The C5502 eZdsp development tool is available now for Rs.4,063.93 ($89). The C5509A eZdsp development tool is also available for Rs.4,520.55 ($99) and includes a USB1.1 slave port and a microSD card slot in addition to the C5502 eZdsp USB development tool features.

Special incentives will be announced on TI E2E online community for active participants of the C5000 ultra-low-power DSP forum. Educators, university students and third-party developers can use special coupon codes through the university and third party discount webpage on the company website. Contact the University Programme coordinator or a local TI sales representative for further details.
