Energy Micro expands the company's EFM32 Gecko and Tiny Gecko MCU product lines with devices in the space-saving QFP48 package. The smaller 48-pin ARM Cortex-M3 based MCUs will reduce device footprints down to 7 x 7mm at a pin pitch of 0.5mm.

The QFP48 Gecko product offers the same range of low energy peripherals as its larger QFP100 packaged variant, such as a multiple sensor interface; UARTs; LCD Controller; 12bit ADC; and an AES encryption/decryption engine. The devices target energy-sensitive applications including smart meters, building automation apps, security systems and portable medical and lifestyle equipment.

The QFP48 packaged EFM32 Gecko and Tiny Gecko MCUs will be available beginning April 2011. Pricing starts at Rs.64.67 ($1.41) each in 100k quantities.
