Rohde & Schwarz T&M portfolio speeds up LTE rollout

Rohde & Schwarz presents a wide portfolio of T&M equipment at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona to aid the rapid deployment of LTE-FDD and TD-LTE. R&S LTE products include solutions for developing and manufacturing chipsets, user equipment and infrastructure as well as for network planning, setup and monitoring.

The first LTE-FDD and TD-LTE networks are being rolled out in Europe, the USA and in Asia. These new wireless communications standards have extremely high data rates—up to 100 Mbit/s—that allow high-speed mobile internet access. British market research institute, Wireless Intelligence says there will be about 6 crore LTE users in China by the year 2015. Other significant Asian LTE markets include Japan, Indonesia, Korea and Taiwan.

Among the products on display are signal generators and signal analysers for the manufacture of RF components, base stations and mobile user equipment. The instruments are used wherever signalling is not required. The R&S SMU200A high-end vector signal generator and the R&S SMBV100A vector signal generator can generate standard-compliant LTE signal. The R&S SMU200A can carry out performance tests on receivers with fading and noise. The R&S FSQ high-end signal and spectrum analyser is available for signal analysis and the R&S FSV for general-purpose applications.

The R&S CMW500 wideband communication tester is applicable to the development and production of chipsets and wireless devices. The R&S CMW500 is targeted for protocol, RF and conformance tests. This platform supports LTE-FDD and TD-LTE and current cellular and non-cellular standards. The R&S CMW500 performs alignment and verification 10x faster than conventional solutions, according to the company. The R&S CMW500 handles signalling and non-signalling tests.

The R&S TS8980 is an RF test system for developing LTE capable wireless devices. The system provides both transmitter and receiver tests. Manufacturers and test houses can use the R&S TS8980 to perform general development tests as well as precompliance and conformance tests.

R&S offers portable instruments for installing and servicing LTE networks. The R&S ZVH cable and antenna analyser offers operating convenience. The R&S ZVH helps installation teams set up more antenna systems fast. The R&S FSH4 and R&S FSH8 handheld spectrum analysers offer in-depth analysis capability and LTE signal demodulation. The portable R&S PR100 receiver can be used to locate interference sources.

The R&S TSMW scanner and the R&S ROMES drive test software help operators to plan, expand and optimise their LTE networks. The scanner supports both stationary and mobile applications offering high degree of automation. The R&S TSMW boasts high sensitivity and measurement speed even when measuring different technologies in parallel.

3GPP Release 9 features such as positioning reference signals are initially supported from a signal generation perspective. R&S has an LTE-Advanced programme and has published an application note dealing with this technology. Features such as carrier aggregation are supported on signal generators and spectrum analysers. Multicarrier ACLR measurements on up to five aggregated 20MHz component carriers are possible using basic instrument functions on signal and spectrum analyser solutions.
