Nokia Siemens Networks is setting up a Smart Lab that is scheduled to open in Q1 2011 in Korea. The main focus of the lab would include R&D as well as industry collaboration on advanced broadband wireless technologies which support industry megatrends such as cloud computing, M2M (machine-to-machine), smart devices and other new form factors.

With the intent on enhancing smart device-optimised applications, services and networks; the lab shall explore the potential of wireless broadband technologies to deliver superior end-user experience. The Seoul-based lab will cater to both local and global markets while collaborating with operators and handset manufacturers in Korea to develop and maximise advanced services, applications and network infrastructure.

The Smart Lab in Korea would be a new expansion to Nokia Siemens Networks' line-up of Smart Labs which already exist in Finland and the U.S. The labs enable Nokia Siemens Networks' effort to transform mobile networks towards giving the best support for today's smart device. Recently, the company also collaborated with Telefónica and Nokia to set up the Smartphone Experience Lab at the Telefónica premises in Madrid.

The lab has been exploring ways of ensuring the best user experience as smartphone use grows. Particularly, it is finding the ideal configuration between mobile handsets, applications and networks to enhance resource consumption, handset and application performance.
