Taiwanese DRAM manufacturers --Nanya Technology Corp. and Inotera Memories Inc. are still in the red for Q3 2010 .

Nanya said quarterly sales revenue was Rs.2,260.55 crore ($484.1 million), a decrease of 5 per cent compared to Q2 2010 and a 30 per cent increase year-on-year. The company posted a net loss of Rs.343.22 crore ($73.5 million) in Q3 2010, compared to a loss of Rs.1.64 lakh crore ($35.2 billion) in Q2 2010 and a loss of Rs.590.70 crore ($126.5 million) year-on-year. Q3 2010 DRAM sales were 5 per cent lower compared to Q2 2010, primarily due to a 15 per cent plunge in average selling prices (ASPs).

The 42nm DRAM process technology, developed by Nanya Technology and Micron Technology Inc., was demonstrated in the first lot on July 5. Volume production started this October. The company's 2Gbit DDR3 of 50nm DRAM capacity accounted for 70 per cent of the combined production at Nanya and Inotera in Q3 2010.

In October 2010, Nanya's current capacity in its own 300mm Fab 3A will exceed 48,000 wafer starts per month. Wafer starts in Fab 3A by the end of 2010 will reach 50,000, and are expected to reach 60,000 in the end of Q1 2011.

Nanya's board approved a proposal to issue 60 crore new common shares for a total amount of about Rs.1,500.34 crore ($321.3 million). The fund will be used for the purchase of new equipment for 42nm migration and the expansion to achieve fully loaded 60,000 wafer capacity.

Meanwhile, Inotera Memories Inc. reported sales of Rs.1,509.68 crore ($323.3 million) in Q3 2010, down 12 per cent from Q2 2010 but up 4 per cent year-on-year. Inotera posted a loss of Rs.397.38 crore ($85.1 million) in Q3 2010, compared to a loss of Rs.274.11 crore ($58.7 million) in Q2 2010, and a loss of Rs.382.44 crore ($81.9 million) year-on-year.
